چکیده

This study presents a variational approach to couple PeriDynamic (PD) and Finite Element (FE) analyses take advantage of their salient features. The PD FE domains share the same nodes along interface without an overlap region any constraint conditions. Therefore, this does not require morphing or blending function that facilitates coupling over transition zone. Although is general limited commercial software, interactions for bond-based (BB), ordinary state-based (OSB) non-ordinary (NOSB) are modeled with MATRIX27 elements native ANSYS, purpose demonstration. It framework perform BB, OSB NOSB coupled traditional elements. provides ability practicing engineers in industry integrating into based design tools. can boundary be completely embedded domain. resulting global system equations includes contributions arising from nodes. These solved simultaneously requiring iterative procedure through implicit methods. it direct (seamless) results free displacement kinks; thus, unphysical stress concentrations do appear near between regions. Its accuracy demonstrated by considering isotropic elastic plates subjected various types conditions under quasi-static dynamic loading Also, its crack propagation double cantilever beam three-point bend test specimens. Evaluation of Fracture Parameters by Coupling the Edge-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method

This paper presents a technique to evaluate the fracture parameters by combining the edge based smoothed finite element method (ESFEM) and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). A semi-analytical solution is sought in the region close to the vicinity of the crack tip using the SBFEM, whilst, the ESFEM is used for the rest of the domain. As both methods satisfy the partition of unity...

Extended Finite Element Method for Statics and Vibration Analyses on Cracked Bars and Beams

In this paper, the extended finite element method (XFEM) is employed to investigate the statics and vibration problems of cracked isotropic bars and beams. Three kinds of elements namely the standard, the blended and the enriched elements are utilized to discretize the structure and model cracks. Two techniques referred as the increase of the number of Gauss integration points and the rectangle...

Mixed Dimensional Coupling for Efficient Structural Finite Element Analyses

Many practical finite element models contain long slender regions and areas where the thickness is small in relation to the other dimensions. The slender regions are best modelled using 1D beam elements, while shell or plate type elements should be used to represent any areas consisting of thin walls. These reduced element types are much more efficient than using full 3D continuum elements (whi...

Experimental and Finite Element Analyses of the Hydrostatic Cyclic Expansion Extrusion (HCEE) Process with Back-Pressure

It is generally known that severe plastic deformation processes with back pressure not only apply higher hydrostatic stress and more deformation compared to what a regular process can apply to a workpiece but also prevent surface defects in the workpiece during the process. Hydrostatic cyclic expansion extrusion (HCEE) was developed recently for processing long ultrafine-grained metals and allo...
